I was wondering how much i should charge people for doing their makeup for Halloween or Zombie Walks and for educatee films. I tried looking online but didn't get very far. Some sites said how much people accuse by the hour or past the day just no i said how much to charge by the face since each person volition just be paying for their own makeup.

I'm not accredited or professional but i don't want to charge too piffling either. Can anyone aid? How much do other SFX makeup artists charge? You lot can reply here or PM me.

Obviously i'll charge differently depending on how intricate the makeup is but i have no idea where to even begin.

rates vary vastly from place to place its very hard to give you an exact dollar... just here are a few things to consider...

Halloween piece of work... this is usually my busiest time of the year and the ONLY time I charge past the face... I cistron in the cost of the materials and level of difficulty for example a "sexy kitty" is easier just some "glam brand-up and a little face painting probably takes me no more than 30mins and the cost of the bodily make-upwards and disposables thats used is relatively low, but a full on prosthetic uses much more production and depending on the "creature" information technology tin take me 2-iv hrs longer if theres pilus existence applied....
I factor the price of my materials including disposables if I needed to buy anything specific for the customer and and so I add together in my "hourly or per look face" I make up one's mind what I'm "worth" i people get fussy about the price I explicate the break downward to them.. they can either alter what they desire me to exercise or go to another creative person....
my rates for Halloween vary from $50- $500 depending on what the person wants, more if they want a custom prosthetic made..

Zombie walks .. I've done make-upwardly for a couple of these , at one I set upwards shop in the parking lot and charged a flat rate of $45 bucks per face and was cranking out zombies I had pre made gelatin wounds and tones of disposable brushes information technology was assembly line like brand-up, my brother who is not a make-up artist was my blood splatter guy , in one case I applied the make-upwardly some very super simple some a little more elaborate, with my management he hit them with some blood, this fashion I didnt have to deal with the sticky mess of the sfx blood... I did each face in almost 15-25 mins each... human that was a fun mean solar day smile

Pupil films... your going to exist lucky to go a kit fee and maybe some food with student films, depending on what they want and if theres anything specific you lot have to buy your looking at a $25-$100 per twenty-four hours kit fee, if theres custom prosthetic needed the fees go up dramatically... but often student films have next to no money so you have to be creative and skilled in the fine art of turning glass into diamonds.... I quick learned that if I wanted to make money student films were non the style to practise it...

Thanks, that helps a lot. I don't still have the resources to make custom prosthetics but otherwise the halloween and zombie walk prices you gave are a adept starting bespeak for me.

At Halloween in Vancouver, I was always booked at a costume shop in Kitsilano, Miranda Mills. I charged 10 bucks per makeover and a few dollars more if it was all-encompassing. I got it down to 10 minutes a look, and made 60 bucks an hr. I was booked for 3 nights solid, averaged 250 a night, made 1K over the event.

The key for me is to piece of work volume and work fast. Dr. No, for case, took 15 minutes. Cut and mucilage the bald cap (its not high def, its for party ffs), paint it, cut some styrofoam, paint those silver, glue to confront, draw some lines with blood trail..instant Dr. No.

Braveheart..lol...v minutes. Affections....10 minutes. Zombie. zomg. 10 minutes.

Morticians wax/spirit mucilage/cheapo fleshtone blending colors for the win...and remember to bring some small-scale containers of acetone so they can take off the spirit mucilage at the end of the nighttime,,, a caring touch!

Boom blast boom, crank em out like hot pretzels. 60 bucks an 60 minutes, do volume, no joke.

No, you lot wont win any Emmies for Specialfx this year, BUT, you volition enjoy a marvellous all you tin eat sushi with 10 orders of yellow tail and yet accept money left over for Remy.

But I concur most of your clients will be impressed with but about anything so quantity over quality is ok in this case..

I usually put together a small "remover" kit for my clients who have had things glued to their faces , but 90% of them will get super drunk and merely skin information technology off or go to bed with it however on....
